The SMB Plus app launches.

SMB Version

ReadyNAS OS 6 supports SMB protocol 3.0 by default. Some Windows applications may not work with SMB 3.0. For example, Microsoft System Image Backup for Windows 8/Server 2012 will not work with anything higher than SMB 2.0. Adjust the maximum protocol version ReadyNAS will support by changing the setting below.

New SMB connections will adopt the new settings. Establish connections will remain connected as the previous setting. To force existing connections to change settings, the ReadyNAS or the client should be restarted.

To change the SMB protocol version:

  1. In the SMB Plus app, click the SMB Version tab.
  2. Use the drop-down menu and select a version.
  3. Click the Save button.

Your settings are saved.

Oplocks

Opportunistic locking (oplocks) is a file locking mechanism designed to improve performance by controlling client-side caching of files on the network. Oplocks usually improve performance, but there are cases when data is being shared by multiple clients concurrently that it can degrade performance. You can choose to enable or disable oplocks below. Please note that this option is only relevant on SMB1/CIFS connections.

Toggling Oplocks

  1. In the SMB Plus app, click the Oplocks tab.
  2. In the drop-down menu, select Enable or Disable.
  3. Click the Save button.

Your settings are saved.

Preallocate

Preallocate disk space before writing data. This can slow down write speed slightly, but should result in the file being nicely laid out on the disk, with minimal fragmentation.

Toggling Preallocate

  1. In the SMB Plus app, click the Preallocate tab.
  2. In the drop-down menu, select Enable or Disable.
  3. Click the Save button.

Your settings are saved.

Hide Unreadable

Hide files from the user that they do not have read permissions to.

Toggling Hide Unreadable

  1. In the SMB Plus app, click the Hide Unreadable tab.
  2. In the drop-down menu, select Enable or Disable.
  3. Click the Save button.

Your settings are saved.

Hide Unwriteable

Hide files from the user that they do not have write permissions to.

Toggling Hide Unwriteable

  1. In the SMB Plus app, click the Hide Unwriteable tab.
  2. In the drop-down menu, select Enable or Disable.
  3. Click the Save button.

Your settings are saved.
